There was a time when having a degree was the most important factor you could have when hunting for great paying positions. Now in that is certainly not the case. Degrees vs Certifications
It’s important to notice that almost some of the jobs don’t require a college degree they do require a certification which may require educational courses and training in order to achieve such a certification.
Consider a construction manager who would likely need to be a contractor whose licensed and certified. The same goes for an Environmental Health and Safety Officer and obviously a piolet with a Recreational Certificate.
If you goal is to skip having to attend classes and earn credentials to work, these job choices may not be at the top of your list this .
Being able to sell is a great skill set
At the end of the day, if there is one skill set that can’t be taught in classroom and a skill set that can put bread (lots and lots of bread) on your table, it’s the ability to sell. This is because at the end of the day, a business can only survive if it can sell its products and services. Salespeople are the lifeline of their business and finding people capable of selling is easier said than done.
For this reason, you will see great paying positions like Real Estate Agents and Sales Manager. Even Fitness Managers at gyms or workout centers, make an average annual salary of $86,372 AUD but being able to sell members in renewing contracts is vital to the position.
Final Thoughts
Although the annual salaries of these positions may give people without degrees hunting for well paying positions some hope, it doesn't take away the benefits of having a degree from a college. In most cases jobs that require degrees do pay better. There is also the other argument that by the time you pay back the degree you earned, your likely out the difference you’re making by obtaining that degree requesting positioning.
Personally I don’t agree with this especially if your willing to put 10+ years into the new job that requires a degree because in time the value will start to pay for itself.
