How to dress for success at a job interview!

Imagine this... you own your own company and post an ad looking for job candidates to fill an opening. In walks a great of three people. Two of them have tears in their jeans, holes in their shirts, died hair, piercings, and mismatching socks. The other is clean shaven, dresses nicely, and is looking sharp. Which one do you think you'd choose?

Dressing to impress during a job interview is one of the most important parts of a success job interview. That's because before you shake anybody's hand and express quality body language or open your mouth, a possible employer sees you from afar and what you look like and how you carry yourself, means a lot to those looking for a qualified candidate to fill a spot. How we choose to dress and present ourselves, can help make a good first impression about ourselves to others.

Now some can argue that the way we dress should not be an indicator of our ability or inability to do a job. BUT how we dress how much a job means to us. The fact that we took our time to look our best, really shows a level of respect and desire one has for the opening in question.

I myself own my own business and have experience many horror stories involving people who don't stress for success during job interviews. I remember years ago, I interviewed somebody for a job opening who came in with an undressed t-shirt and baggy jeans. They didn't get the job, as it was clear that the idea of preparing for a job interview never crossed their mind.

Studies show that a majority of companies, during the job interview process, consider how a candidate dresses as an important factor in choosing them over others. Still, as important as picking quality attire is before going in for an interview, some job candidates do not know how to dress for success. Showing up like somebody who didn't put any thought or care into the interview, shows yourself off as somebody who could care less.

If you are unsure of how to dress for your next job interview, it's best to go with a more conservative look. Keep the attire simple. Yet too elegant or flashy but nice. The more the person interviewing you can focus on "you" and your background, and stay away from how good or bad you look, the better you stand out and possible land the job opening.

What attire women should wear...

• Keep the colors simple and solid. You want to achieve a few considerate look here.
• Make sure your blouse is coordinated with the rest of your attire.
• Keep your shoe fashion moderate
• Really limited your jewelry
• Make your hairstyle neat and professional
• Keep hosiery light
• Don't overdue makeup or perfume. Some smells may be appealing to some, gross to others
• Manicured your nails. You had over your resume, these will really stand out.

What attire men should wear...

• Keep the colors simple and solid. You want to achieve a few considerate look here.
• A white button down shirt. Boring, you may say? BUT simple. It works.
• A conservative tie. Nothing crazy. No wacky colors, cartoon charactors, rude remarks.
• Dark shocks, nice dress shows. Sneaks are a no-no.
• Limited jewelry is important. Chunky gold necklaces, flashy watches, can come across as sleazy to some.
• Keep your hair simple and neat. Again, no crazy colors or spiky looks. Let the person interviewing you, focus on YOU.
• Women need to cut down on some perfume and men need to do the same with aftershave. A strong smell, is to strong for some.
• Keep your fingernails neatly trimmed.

What everybody should bring to complete their attire...

• A portfolio or briefcase is important. This is great place to add your resume, a copy of your diploma, references, notepad, and much more... making you appear more prepared for an interview.
