High School Diplomas 101
A high school diploma is an educational document rewarded for the completion of a degree from high school. High School diplomas are awarded both the U.S. and Canada and considered the minimum education for government level jobs and a substitute for GEDs.
A High School Diploma is only commonly found in both Canada and the United States of America. A General Certificate of Secondary Education is common in England, while a School Leaving Certificate is typical in Ireland and both IGCSE and AICE certificates can be found elsewhere.
High School diplomas are one time were made using sheepskin (the hide of a sheep) since the majority of paper produced at the time was not very strong enough to hold up and was extremely difficult to produce in large quantities. High School Diplomas made using sheepskin paper where known to be paper-thin and individual student information regarding the name of students high school, his or her name, and proper dates of graduation, where hand written on each individual piece of sheep skin. Over the years, parchment paper was used in making diplomas and has remained the type of paper used in all modern day diploma production.
Size of diplomas has also changed throughout time. Older diplomas have been known to be very large, but it is very common to print new diplomas on standard 8.5X11 parchment paper, and in European countries, A4 paper size is used instead. Another difference is the method with which diplomas are handed out. Another thing that has changed is how High School diplomas are handed out. At one time, all diplomas were rolled up and tied in ribbons, before being handed out to graduating High School student. By the turn of the century, high school diplomas were presented in leather bounded presentation folders, and handed out during High School graduation.
High School graduation is a special time for all new High School graduating students who have completed the necessary coursework and proper passed required classes with a qualifying grade point average, in order to obtain their High School diploma.
Many former High School students have struggled to graduate High School, and the problems with graduating High School have existed throughout many generations. Because of this, in many cases, graduating High School is a big ordeal and looked highly open.
High School graduations are where High School diplomas are received. Many High School graduations take place in June or July, depending on the individual High Schools yearly scheduling.
Graduating students, walk across a stage in front of friends and family members, while being rewarded their diploma. In some cases, students are handed, rolled up pieces of paper with a ribbon, similar to what was once handed out in previous graduations, but in the case of modern day High School graduations, these diplomas are used as temporary substitutes for an actual High School diploma inside a leather padded folder, which the High School plans on sending the graduating High School student at a later date.
