Homeschooling a child means to teach your child at home. Although, some parents, even though of less modest means often choose to teach their children themselves and keep the cost of this sort of education to a reasonable rate.

Whether a parent wants their child home schooled, rich or poor, is often done for a number of reasons including but often come down to a public school’s lack of:

• Better academic test results (often arrives because of more direct or in some cases, one-on-one education between the teacher and student).
• The poor environment of public schools (drugs, crime, etc)
• Improved character development of public school students
• Objections of what is taught at public schools (ie: anti-evolution views that a parent may have)

In 2001 survey, many home school parents claimed that region (33% to be exact) as their #1 reason for wanting to move their students out of public schools and into home schools. Even an even larger number claimed that they felt at home, their children could receive an even better education.

The choice may also come down the parenting style of the parents or it may be due to the family’s living situation. Maybe they travel a lot and a home school education just makes sense.

In most states, as long as a home school student receives and passes the necessary curriculum to graduate, they are granted a degree or certificate, just as a student who has graduated from a public school. Although, in some cases, home school students are asked to take additional test which rank the level of education they’ve received through home schooling. In fact, many well respected Ivy League colleges have become to accept home school students.

Many parents or individuals who run and operate home schools, award graduating home school students with home school diplomas.
